VISITING THE GARDEN
The Bain-Ballantyne garden is open by appointment from Labour Weekend to Christmas. Phone 03 329 9712 for details.
It is also part of the Governors Bay Garden Tour on November 28.
MICROCLIMATE
Governors Bay and environs was once well-known for its early vegetables and fruit, including tomatoes and nuts, and pip and stonefruit, notably cherries. Remnants of once extensive cherry tree cages remained on Waitahuna when Gavin Bain bought it. Today early spring bulbs are still grown commercially in the area.
HUMIDITY
In general, Governors Bay has above average humidity throughout the year. On average, the least humid month is January and the most humid is June.
