Remodelista in Maine

REVIEW BY SHARON NEWEY

By Annie P. Quigley, Artisan/ Bookreps NZ, $69.99

This book may be taking us on a tour of 10 houses in Maine in the northern US but Kiwi readers will find that the types of architecture and interiors are highly relatable, given they are heavily influenced by the coast and reflect a rugged resourceful style – there’s a restored farmhouse, an off-thegrid home, an architect’s own shingle-clad house and a converted church among others. The houses are arranged seasonally and are interspersed with simple and appealing DIY projects like creating vignettes from beach-walk finds, and making pressed seaweed prints, stencilled tea towels and wild flower arrangements. This is a beautiful coffee table book that is heavy on beautiful photographs and light on text. The designcentric itineraries for visitors to the area won’t be of much use to local readers – unless Maine is on your list of go-to places now that we can travel more freely. And if the book leaves you hungry for more interior inspiration, the Remodelista of the title is a popular interior design and lifestyle website based out of New York (Quigley is a senior editor there) – take a look.
