The complicated life of decorated British World War I solider and controversial war poet Siegfried Sassoon is explored in this biopic by director Terence Davies which stars Jack Lowden (Dunkirk) and Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who) as the young and old Sasson respectively. As well as coming to terms with the horrors he’d witnessed on the Western Front, Sasson battled with his homosexuality and had several affairs with men before attempting salvation by marrying a woman and, later in life, converting to Roman Catholicism. In cinemas July 28.
