Dark & moody
Using different textures of the same colour will add visual depth to a dark room – as with the tiles in this bathroom designed by Christchurch interior designer Anna Dick. Introducing warm materials such as the timber balances the intensity of dark colours, and adds a restful aspect. “Creating focal points is important in dark bathrooms, like the bath on this rimu plinth which draws you towards this area. It’s not an isolated focal point but complemented with timber on the vanity top and accented with lighter colours and greenery,” she says. Anna also balanced the high ceiling in the room by adding niches and shelves to draw the eye down, and carefully placed lights for both ambience and task lighting. “Layering of these types of lighting can be so restful while functional.”
