Q&A

With Judith Barraclough & Ian Clark

ONE AMAZING THING: We’ve never had a broken window in spite of all the backyard cricket. (Ian)

A PLANT I LOVE: The gardenia hedge at the front. It’s beautiful and flowers for months. (Judith)

The old golden queen peach which was here when we bought the house – the peaches are much nicer than anything you can buy. (Ian)

ONE THING WE MIGHT HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY: Perhaps make the pool a bit smaller. It would have given us a bit more garden to play with and more room for pool furniture. (Judith)

BEST THING ABOUT HAVING A POOL: It’s a great way to keep teenagers at home, and we always had other kids around. (Judith)

AN ECO-FRIENDLY DEVELOPMENT: The rainwater tanks with a pump so we can water the garden and fill the spa. (Ian)

FAVOURITE PLANT COMBINATIONS: I like the mix of old and new – the fact that we have plants like jacaranda from the old garden and they work well with the new palms. (Judith)

THE BEST MONEY WE SPENT: The Louvretec roof, blinds and heater make our outdoor area like an extension of our living room. You can tilt the roof to allow more light into the house, and the blinds have been a game changer because it used to be too hot to sit out there on summer afternoons. (Judith)

A GOOD DESIGN IDEA: I like having the spa hidden away – spas are often not that attractive and it’s nice and private. (Judith)
