FAVOURITE PLACE TO ENTERTAIN: The roadside deck with its large 1.5m-wide fire blazing. It’s totally protected from afternoon sea breezes and we enjoy the hill view to the north. I love that we can still see the ocean from here – through our walls of glass. (Carol)

SOME SOUND ADVICE: It’s worth putting money into the landscaping. We had our garden designed by my old Lincoln University buddy Wayne Butson, from Design & Garden Landscapes. It’s been a real home enhancer. It would have been a dog’s breakfast if we’d done this ourselves. (Judd)

WE WERE AMUSED THAT: We won the 2020 national House of the Year lifestyle outdoor living award. People in the Bay of Islands or Coromandel would have thought, “Do they even go outside in Dunedin?” (Carol)

WE LOVE THIS HOUSE BECAUSE: It was made from hard work and such care and attention by my son Zac. It was built with such love and we love it every day. It will be our only home. (Carol)
