NZHOUSE & GARDEN

As part of our commitment to and celebration of New Zealand's first language, te reo Māori, we have added a Māori version of our name to the masthead. As Stuff's Pou Tiaki editor Carmen Parahi and Pou Tiaki digital producer Kawe Kawe-Roes explain: “The beauty of te reo Māori and kupu Māori (Māori words) is they can have multiple meanings and uses, like all languages. For us kāinga means home. For years Kiwis have opened the door and welcomed us in to share in the stories of their homes. Māra is the name for a garden. We all love our gardens. So many varieties and knowledge to gain from everyone who shows us the aroha (love) they have for their māra. Toitū means enduring. Whether your kāinga or māra is a legacy or something for now, the story of it will endure in our publication, in the lives of the people who share their stories and to our readers.”
