My pick for fruit trees

Jo McCarroll’s prompt for fruit tree recommendations had me looking about my garden. My suggestion of a great fruit tree to grow is not an edible fruit but the makrut lime tree, which has to be one of my all year round favourites. It’s planted alongside my lemongrass that I cut to add (to the Nutri Bullet) along with makrut leaves, ginger and spice to make a paste for laksa or Thai curry. The knobbly fruit are spectacular grated over cake icing, especially carrot or lemon cake.

The other bushes I grow that are a top pick here are the raspberries. Months after their main flourish, they are still fruiting – just enough for yoghurt topping each day. So easy to propagate.

I read in an earlier NZ Gardener issue about planting them down a driveway but mine are along a fence making it easy to hang netting over when need be.
