VISIT THE GARDEN

Hawthorn Cottage is open to the public as part of the Dunedin Open Gardens in October. It is also open for private visits from October to April. Email jo.inch@xtra.co.nz.

SAGE ADVICE

An elderly gardener once told Craig to think of the garden like a bunch of flowers: “Put them in a jam jar then when they die, all you have is a jam jar; put them in a vase when they die, you still have the beautiful vase.” This is one of the reasons for the trimmed, clipped hedges and balls, and large pots in the garden.

KEEP TOOLS AT HAND

The couple built a second tool shed by the vege garden because the main tool shed was too far away. Having it and the tools onsite makes life easier, saving time and energy.
