Thanks for the tip, Jo

I really enjoyed November’s article entitled Healing & Nourishment, which got me thinking that actually the garden is one of life’s greatest teachers. Lessons are free, ongoing and on a one-to-one basis. CLAUDIA FORYCKI, AUCKLAND

In the October NZ Gardener, there was a tip to help germinate your carrot seeds. In the past we have had difficulty getting parsnips to germinate as well. My husband followed Jo McCarroll’s tip of making a 10cm deep trench and back filled the trench with sand and potting mix. He used a little hand tool instead of a rake to make holes for the seed to be put in using a seed dispenser.

Well the success rate with our germination this year is amazing and we are so pleased with our success. It is certainly well worth following this process. We are really delighted with our crop this year.
