VISITING THE GARDEN

More than 900 people visited this garden over the weekend of the Franklin Hospice Garden Ramble in November 2020, but Glenys doesn’t open the garden to tours or visitors on a regular basis. “There’s too much to do on the farm and I wouldn’t want to show it when it’s not looking its best,” she says.

RAINFALL

While the area gets plenty of rain over winter, summers can be dry and this cottage garden gets thirsty. The Laings are fortunate to have plentiful bore water but, says Glenys: “The cows come first, and my garden waits until they’ve had a drink.”

FERTILISER

There’s no shortage of manure on a dairy farm, and Glenys also makes her own mulch and compost and adds that to the garden beds.
